The Hall of Faru
The Hall of Faru was formerly the Main Shrine Hall, which was foundedin 669. After the fire in
Chenghua Time of Ming Dynasty, it was rebuilt to thepresent pattern. President of The Buddhist
Association of China Zhao Puchuwrote the plaque couplets for the Hall of Faru, which says: "The
house isfull of saints; all the Buddhist groups come to worship Buddha.” Master Juzanalso wrote:
"Mifu Mountain, the first mountain of China. Eighteen monks,with infinite charms.” There's a large
plaque with "Put the palmstogether, as vast and great woods", which was inscribed by Zheng Banqiao,
one of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou. The Plaque with "Rememberinggoodness" was inscribed by Wang
Geyi, a calligrapher and painter ofNantong. A jade-made Sakyamuni portrait, presented by Taiwan
believers, isenshrined in the church. There's a picture of "Eighteen monks in thehistory of Chinese
Buddhism" between the niches of Ananda and Kasyapa,left and right side waiters. Eighteen eminent
monks were selected by TheBuddhist Association of China. Their ceramic paintings were made in
Beijing byFan Zeng, a painter from Nantong. This is the only place to worship theeighteen
eminent monks in China.
